New Interactive Glendale Library Arts & Culture Catalog

NEW CATALOG

Glendale Library Arts & Culture is happy to introduce our new interactive library catalog. The new catalog will give you an improved user experience and modern search capabilities, allowing for easier browsing through not only titles, but formats as well. The cover art gallery is a prominent new perk, and offers breezier perusing through new titles, staff picks, best-sellers, recently reviewed materials, awarded books and featured languages. The search function has been designed for easier use, and allows searching by keywords and media for the users who aren’t quite sure what they’re looking for until they find it.

The new interactive library catalog has an engaging quality; using a library card and PIN to create a profile, you can write reviews, rate titles, follow other profiles and create lists. User profiles also allow you to save a borrowing history, if you chose to, a new touch with some quality. One feature that stands out is the user’s ability to add searchable tags to a library item. This is will help an item find the right person looking for it should the subject headings fall short.

Recent Lists are curated reader’s advisory materials selected by Glendale Library Arts & Culture library staff to give readers recommendations. You can also search lists from other libraries including such wonderful reading list topics like Native American Contemporary LiteratureLGBTQIA+ Representation in Middle Grade, and 10 Family-Friendly 3D Movies to name a few.  Titles That Include Alliteration is a list with books like Black Box and several other alliterative titles. Extinction and De-Extinction is a list featuring fiction and non-fiction books dealing with extinction and question of cloning, and of course, Jurassic Park is on the list.

The upgraded catalog also includes:

  • A Powerful search that works with natural language and smart filters so you can quickly find what you want.

  • Linking together the multiple formats the library owns of any given title– book, audiobook, ebook, and more – so you can see all your options in one place.

  • Automatic recommendations - when all copies of book you want are checked out, you’ll see similar titles you can get immediately.

  • Ratings, reviews and curated lists that help you find unique recommendations from library staff and other users.

  • An easy-to-use patron dashboard, with all your account activity in one place, including tracking of what you’ve checked out and what you want to borrow next.

The new library catalog is powered by BiblioCommons, which works with over 100 libraries throughout the US and Canada. The new interactive library catalog will officially launch with Glendale Library Arts & Culture on Tuesday, October 12, 2021.
