PICTURE BOOK MONTH
Picture Book Month is an international literacy initiative that celebrates the print picture book during the month of November.
Beginning November 1st, you can visit your local Glendale Library, Arts & Culture location to pick up a FREE Picture Book Month Celebration Kit (available while supplies last) filled with various picture book related activities!

Inside Your P.B.M. Kit:

Daily Reading Challenge
Read at least 10 picture books that fit the daily suggested reading criterion, color in the boxes, and record the titles read to earn a FREE picture book.
Dear Friend
Write a postcard to a picture book character, and return it to your local Glendale Library. Wait a few days and then check our website. Who knows? You might just see a reply!
Pin the Tail on the Dragon
You may have heard of Pin the Tail on the Donkey, but are you brave enough to join Leo and Jane in a game of pin the tail on the DRAGON? Color, cut, and play.
Scene in the Park
Explore the park as Maurice and Lotta. Create your own 2-dimensional performance with cut-out characters and a park setting.
Hat
Cut, tape, and decorate to make your own version of Bear's missing favorite hat.
Flip Book
Time to tackle the bunny slope! Assemble this flip book, and then watch Bunny in action as he skis down the slope. But beware the cliffhanger!
Maisy Bingo
Celebrate 30 years of Maisy fun with a Maisy twist on a classic game: bingo. The first player to complete a full row of matched boxes and yell “Bingo!” wins the game.
Animal Masks
"Roooaaarr! I'm a bear! Or am I a lion?" Why not try both? And a penguin too! Cut out these animal masks and begin your imaginative play.
Rainbow Pencil
When artist Marisol discovers there's no blue left to paint the sky, she mixes all the colors of the rainbow to create a beautiful new "sky color." Use the rainbow pencil from this kit to make your own creatively colored art.
Pigeon Mask
Have you ever wanted to act the part of Pigeon? Cut out circles for his face, eye, and eyeball. Cut two triangles for his beak. Then glue all the pieces together, along with the craft stick at the bottom to hold up your mask. Now practice saying, "Let me drive the bus!"
Caterpillar Pet
Cut out the leaf. Glue the green pom poms in a line to make the caterpillar's body, and then glue the red pom pom at one end for his head. Attach two eyes to the red pom pom. And voila! You now have your own pet caterpillar.Your Picture Book Month Celebration Kit includes a calendar filled with picture book reading suggestions for every day of the month!
Earn a FREE picture book by completing at least 10 of the suggested readings. At the same time, turn in your reading log to be entered in a random drawing for an additional prize pack of 7 FREE picture books!
If you weren’t able to pick up a Celebration Kit at your local Glendale Library, you can still participate in the challenge by downloading and printing the calendar.
Pet Caterpillar
Don’t forget to feed your new pet! What are your favorite things to eat? Draw some yummy treats for your very hungry caterpillar.
Pigeon Mask
Hold up your mask and practice these Pigeon lines:
“Can I drive the bus?”
“I promise I’ll be careful!”
“I have dreams, you know!”
“Pleeeeeeeaaaaasssseee???”
Use the postcard included in your Picture Book Month Celebration Kit to write to one of several beloved picture book characters.
Draw a picture on one side, and then use the other side to write a message. Return your completed postcard to your local Glendale Library, and then check back on this page for a reply.
Happy writing!
