eBook Platforms for Every Reader

Recently Glendale Library, Arts & Culture and Pasadena Public Library have separated all shared online collections--as a result, we are consolidating our digital collections. For more information, please visit our FAQ page. Glendale library card holders no longer have access to the OverDrive/Libby App, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. However, by consolidating platforms, we are now able to expand the number of eBooks available. Here are the many other exceptional platforms for eBooks and eAudiobooks you can start taking advantage of today.

CloudLibrary offers a collection of over 100,000 of the newest and most popular titles in eBook and eAudiobook format. You can browse curated digital shelves in several different genres. Whether you are looking for adult biographies, teen dystopian fiction, humorous stories for children, or anything in between, every reader will find a wealth of books to choose from on Cloud.

Freading is another comprehensive platform that boasts a diverse selection of reading material that is available to check out immediately--no waiting required. You can download three books each week, and with categories ranging from Crafts & Hobbies to Technology & Engineering, there’s something for the casual reader and the ambitious scholar alike. There is also a special section for book clubs, featuring inspiration for popular and thought-provoking titles to read and discuss--and, because there are unlimited copies available to download this is a perfect place for your book club to secure this month’s read.

Hoopla showcases an impressive revolving selection of over 72,000 items, including eBooks and eAudiobooks, as well as streaming movies, music, comics, and TV shows. Cardholders can check out five items each month, and the good news is that you’ll never have to place a hold--all materials are available immediately.

RBdigital is more than just magazines--they also have a wide selection of eAudiobooks to enjoy as well. Revel in more than 17,000 popular and always available eAudiobooks, magazines, and newspapers. Whether you are hoping to catch up on this week’s New Yorker or want to listen to a recent bestseller, you’ve come to the right place.

TumbleBook Library is a collection of books geared toward elementary-aged children. It includes animated talking picture books, chapter books, videos, non-fiction titles, graphic novels, playlists, and books in French and Spanish. Likewise, TumbleMath is the most comprehensive collection of math picture books you will find anywhere, all in the TumbleBook format complete with animation and narration. The books align with concepts covered in Common Core curriculum and are accompanied by supplementary materials such as lesson plans and quizzes. For our teen patrons, there is TeenBookCloud, an online collection of eBooks, enhanced novels, graphic novels, videos and audiobooks, which offers teens access to an amazing range of content. For adults, there is AudioBookCloud, an online audiobook library collection with unlimited streaming access. This means no downloading, holds, or waiting periods. All you have to do is click and listen.

Finding eBooks and eAudiobooks in Armenian can be a challenge, which is why the Library has recently partnered with Vlume, the world’s largest Armenian digital library. Glendale patrons now have free online access to content from several publishers of Armenian language materials from hundreds of classical and modern authors. The eBooks are written for all ages and are available in both Eastern and Western orthographies, with audiobook narration by both Eastern and Western Armenian speakers. The growing and varied collection currently includes over 800 titles and 1,000 hours of audio content.

Many of these eBook and eAudiobook titles are also available on the SimplyE app. SimplyE is developed by the New York Public Library and is a free, open-source e-reader app that allows us to bring our eBook and eAudiobook collection together in one place. Download SimplyE today and browse the Glendale library collection or the SimplyE collection, and consolidate all of your reading apps into one.
