General Contactless Pickup Information

How do I use the Contactless Pickup service?

Contactless Pickup may be used for items requested in advance that are "READY FOR PICKUP." To place a hold or request an item, please use our online catalog or call the library at 818-548-2021. When placing the hold, you will be prompted to select one of the three pickup locations, Brand Library, Central Library, or Montrose Library. For instructions on how to pick up from these locations, select one of them below:

How do I schedule a time to pick up items?

You don't need to schedule an appointment for pickup! When you receive a notice that your holds are ready for pickup, you may then call the following numbers when you are on your way to pick them up.

For Glendale Central Library pickups, call 818-548-2024.

For Brand Library and Arts Center pickups, call 818-548-2051.

For Montrose Library pickups, call 818-548-2048.

Items will be on the hold shelf in each branch. Please let staff know if you would like items placed outside of the branch for pickup.

Where do I park when I arrive?

Central Library- Curbside and walk-up service are both available at Central Library.

Brand Library-Plaza on the west side of the library and next to the accessible parking lot on the east side.

Montrose Library-North side of the library near the parking lot.

What if I don’t have a car?

No problem! Central Library, Brand Library and Montrose Library are offering walkup service only. After you notify us you are coming to pickup your holds, staff will prepare your items. Please call ahead and let our staff know if you would like your items to be placed outside of the building.

What are the hours of Contactless Pickup Service?

Central Library:

Who can use Contactless Pickup Service?

All Glendale Library, Arts & Culture cardholders in good standing can use this service. If you have any questions about current outstanding items or fines on your account, please call 818-548-2021.

I don’t have a library card. How can I still access library services?

You can apply for a free digital library card. There are two ways to get a digital library card:

1 - Visit register.eglendalelac.org and fill out the form.

2 - Use our Glendale Library, Arts & Culture mobile app to create a library eCard.

How do I place an item on hold?

You may use our online catalog or call the library. To place holds using the online catalog follow the instructions below:

  • Go to the library catalog home page.
  • Enter a title in the search box.
  • For example: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
  • Then, click on the arrow to the left of the search bar.
  • Click on “Request It.”
  • Login with your library card number and PIN.
  • A drop down menu with Glendale library branches will appear; you may select GDL Brand Library, GDL Central Library, or GDL Montrose Library as the pickup location for your hold.
  • Click “Submit” to place your hold request.
  • You will be notified when the item is available to be picked up.

For how long will you keep my hold?

We will keep your hold ready for you for 7 days from the day you receive a notice that your item is ready. After that, expired holds will be put back into circulation. If your hold has expired, you can place the hold again online, or call us at 818-548-2021.

How many items can I get using Contactless Pickup?

Currently, 100 items per account can be picked up using this service.

What is the turnaround time for Contactless Pickup?

It may take up to 7 days to retrieve an available item. Once you are notified that your hold is ready for pickup, you may then call us when you are on the way to pick it up.

Is the library cleaning or quarantining books, CDs and DVDs?

Libraries are no longer required to quarantine returned items by the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health (Reopening Protocol for In-Person Services in Libraries). The CDC states that COVID-19 "spread from touching surfaces is not thought to be a common way that COVID-19 spreads" (CDC).

When are my items due?

The lending period for all Glendale items checked out is 21 days. All items will renew automatically up to 5 times, unless they are on hold for another customer.

How do I return library materials?

You may return your library materials using the exterior book drops at any Glendale Library location.

Can I receive Pasadena Public Library items through Contactless Pickup?

Items from Pasadena Public Library are not able to be picked up at Glendale Library, Arts & Culture. Pasadena is providing curbside service to Pasadena library card holders. Please contact them for more information at 626-744-4066.

When will the items I return be cleared from my account?

Please give one week after the return date for items to be cleared from your account. You will not be charged late fines during this time.

Are you taking book donations?

No, we are not taking book donations at this time.
