Glendale Library, Arts & Culture is partnering with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to present In Our Own Voice, an online community program that shares the firsthand experiences of individuals living with a mental illness. The program will take place via Zoom, from 3 - 4:30 pm on June 13, 2020. This free program will provide a deeper understanding of mental health conditions and clarify common misconceptions. All are welcome to attend. Register here.

Mental health issues can affect everyone either directly or through friends or family. Jason Romero, Director of Development and Outreach with NAMI Glendale states, "The fallout from COVID-19 has led people around the world to experience numerous forms of loss, and Glendale residents are no exception. Local physical distancing and Safer-at-Home orders have led to people being cut off from those they care about most and isolated from their normal support structures; sudden drops in income due to layoffs or furloughs has caused immense stress and persistent feelings of uncertainty for many individuals and families; and the loss of a loved one has been a source of trauma which, tragically, continues to be acutely felt throughout the City of Glendale.”

In Our Own Voice also demonstrates how individuals with mental health conditions can thrive and become involved in the community through shared experiences. Romero further explains, "NAMI Glendale is thrilled to partner with the Glendale Library, Arts and Culture department to bring its In Our Own Voice presentation to all Glendale residents. By hearing the stories of people who have been there, audience members will learn that mental health challenges are not only common, but can be overcome. We also hope to link participants to NAMI's services and other local mental health resources to help cope with the losses in their own lives, whatever they may be." Learn more and register today!
