Sound Meditation with Yuki

Join us at the Body and Mind Wellness Festival for sound meditation with Japanese and Tibetan singing bowl for 20 mins. Sit in a chair and enjoy the sound of vibration. Relax your whole body and refresh your spirit.

Dim Sum Library Hunt

Throughout May - Central Library, Grandview, Montrose, Pacific Park, Casa Verdugo and Adams Library Connection

Children are invited to go on a hunt for pictures of dim sum dishes hidden throughout the children’s library. Using a play sheet, find the matching picture and check each off. Prize for completing hunt are dim sum-themed bookmarks Available at select branches, some branch locations will provide activity for one week only. Please call ahead to check times: 818-548-2021.

Ukulele Fun: Play Along With Me

Join this fun and engaging workshop to learn the basics of the ukulele.

During this live 45-minute workshop, an experienced music teacher will introduce basic chords and strumming techniques. Instruments will be provided during this program on a first come, first serve basis.
We have a limited amount of instruments. If you have registered for this program and need to cancel, please call the Casa Verdugo Library at 818-548-2047 during normal business hours. Library staff will wait 5 minutes before offering the instrument to the next library patron.

  • Embracing the value of kapwa (shared being), the mission of the Association for the Advancement of Filipino American Arts and Culture’s (FilAm ARTS) is to facilitate community synergy and transformation by advancing the arts and diverse cultural heritage of Filipinos through arts services, presentation, and education. 

  • The Korean Cultural Center of Los Angeles (KCCLA) welcomes the general public to experience the rich traditions and history of Korea through specialized programs, sponsored events, and multiple learning resources. 

  • The mission of the Chinese American Museum (CAM) is to foster a deeper understanding of, and appreciation for, America’s diverse heritage by researching, preserving, and sharing the history, rich cultural legacy, and continued contributions of Chinese Americans.

  • The Asian Pacific Resource Center (APRC) is a special collection of the County of Los Angeles Public Library the emphasis of the collection is on the Asian American / Pacific Islander American experience, with core holdings on the history, art, and culture - of China, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam, Hawaii, and American Samoa. 
     

LEGAL & CIVIL RIGHTS RESOURCES 

  • Advancing Justice-LA is the nation’s largest legal and civil rights organization for Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. 

  • LA vs Hate is a community centered, artist driven campaign to support all residents of Los Angeles County. Led by the Human Relations Commission, the LA vs. Hate Campaign partners with community partners from every district of the county representing a diverse coalition of voices committed to ending hate. 

 

WELLNESS RESOURCES 

  • Chinatown Service Center provides a wide range of health services including mental healthcare in Mandarin, Cantonese and Vietnamese. Locations in Los Angeles, East Los Angeles, Alhambra, Monterey Park, and San Gabriel.  

  • Drop-in Crisis Counseling and Services provided by Chinatown Service Center and City of Monterey Park. Multilingual caseworkers and counselors available at Monterey Park’s Bruggemeyer Library, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2:00pm to 6:00pm. For more information, contact Chinatown Service Center.  

  • Center for the Pacific Asian Family offers support services for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.  

  • Pacific Asian Counseling Services offers a variety of services with a staff that includes social workers, marriage and family therapists, case managers, psychiatrists, and peer, family and parent advocates. 

  • National Alliance on Mental Health offers educational programs, advocates for individuals and families affected by mental illness. Glendale office.
